Expert Private Guides
We believe a guide can make or break a trip. That's why we partner exclusively with the most knowledgeable, passionate, and personable guides in Scandinavia. These are not just guides; they are historians, naturalists, and storytellers who bring the region to life. They provide more than facts; they offer context, share personal anecdotes, and open doors to authentic cultural encounters. Whether you're exploring a city or a national park, your private guide is dedicated to your interests, adapting the day to your pace and curiosities, ensuring a deeply personal and enriching experience that goes far beyond the surface.
Premium Handpicked Accommodation
Where you stay is an integral part of the journey. We meticulously vet and hand-select a portfolio of accommodations that reflect the character and quality of Scandinavia. From iconic historic hotels in city centers and luxurious design-forward properties to charming boutique inns and unique stays like glass igloos or remote fjord-side cabins, every property is chosen for its exceptional service, prime location, and distinct sense of place. We prioritize comfort, ambiance, and a high-quality experience, ensuring that your home away from home is a highlight in its own right, providing a perfect sanctuary after a day of exploration.
Seamless Private Transfers
Your comfort and time are precious. We eliminate the stress of navigating a new country by arranging all your ground transportation. From the moment you arrive at the airport, you'll be greeted by a professional driver. All your transfers between cities, hotels, and activities are pre-arranged in comfortable, modern, and private vehicles. For scenic routes, we incorporate iconic train journeys like the Flåm or Bergen lines. We handle all the logistics, including luggage, so you can simply sit back, relax, and enjoy the stunning Scandinavian scenery without a worry. This seamless travel flow is a cornerstone of the luxury experience we provide.
Preparing for Your Adventure
We handle the specialized gear. You just need to bring your personal essentials. Here’s a guide to what we provide and what we recommend you pack for a comfortable journey.
What We Provide
To ensure you can travel light while being fully prepared for any adventure, we provide all necessary specialized equipment. This commitment removes the hassle of you having to purchase or transport bulky, activity-specific gear. For our winter tours, this includes high-performance thermal outerwear (suits, boots, gloves, and hats) to keep you warm and dry during aurora chases and dog-sledding. For hiking excursions, we supply trekking poles and, if needed, crampons for glacier walks. On kayaking trips, you'll be outfitted with professional-grade kayaks, paddles, life vests, and dry bags. All equipment is modern, impeccably maintained, and from top-tier brands, ensuring your safety and comfort are never compromised. Our guides provide full instruction on its use, making it accessible even for beginners.
What to Pack
The key to packing for Scandinavia is layering. For summer travel (June-August), bring lightweight layers: t-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, a fleece or mid-layer, and a waterproof and windproof outer jacket. Comfortable walking shoes are essential. Even in summer, evenings can be cool, so a warm hat and light gloves are wise. For winter travel (December-March), thermal underwear is the crucial base layer. Add wool or fleece mid-layers and trust our provided outerwear for the final layer. Wool socks are a must. For all seasons, pack sunglasses, sunscreen (the sun can be strong, especially reflecting off snow or water), a reusable water bottle, a portable power bank for your electronics, and any personal medications. We provide a detailed, activity-specific packing list in your pre-departure documents.
Your Safety, Our Priority
We are unconditionally committed to the highest standards of safety and well-being on every journey we craft. Travel with the complete assurance that you are in the most capable hands.
Certified Guides & Vetted Partners
Every guide and partner in our network undergoes a rigorous vetting process. Our adventure guides hold internationally recognized certifications in wilderness first aid, navigation, and their specific activity (e.g., glacier guiding, kayaking). We maintain constant communication with our partners to ensure they not only meet but exceed industry safety standards, from vehicle maintenance to food hygiene.
Comprehensive Risk Assessments
For every activity and location in your itinerary, we have conducted thorough risk assessments. We proactively monitor weather conditions, trail statuses, and local advisories, making real-time adjustments to your itinerary when necessary to avoid any potential hazards. Your safety always takes precedence over the planned schedule.
24/7 Emergency Support
Our 24/7 concierge line is also your direct link to our emergency response team. In the highly unlikely event of an emergency, you have immediate access to our network of local contacts, medical facilities, and logistical support. We have detailed protocols in place to manage any situation efficiently and effectively, providing you and your family with ultimate peace of mind.
Mandatory Travel Insurance
To ensure comprehensive protection for all our travelers, we require that every client holds a robust travel insurance policy that covers medical emergencies, trip cancellation, and repatriation. We can recommend trusted insurance providers and will verify your coverage before your departure, ensuring there are no gaps in your safety net.
Our Pricing Philosophy
We believe in transparent, value-driven pricing. Your investment secures a seamless, high-quality, and unforgettable travel experience, free from hidden costs or surprises.
What's Included in Your Custom Quote
When you receive a proposal from Nordic Horizons, the quoted price is comprehensive. It encompasses all aspects of your journey as detailed in the itinerary: all handpicked accommodations, all private transfers and local transport (including specified scenic trains or domestic flights), all pre-booked activities and entrance fees, the services of private guides where mentioned, specified meals (like welcome dinners or special culinary experiences), and our 24/7 concierge and support service. We itemize the inclusions clearly so you understand the full value of your investment. The only significant costs not typically included are your international flights to and from Scandinavia, travel insurance, most lunches and dinners (to give you flexibility), and personal expenses. There are absolutely no hidden fees.
Factors that Influence the Price
As every journey is bespoke, the final price is tailored to your specific choices. Several key factors influence the cost. The level of accommodation is a primary driver—a five-star historic hotel will cost more than a charming boutique guesthouse. The season of travel also plays a significant role, with peak summer (June-August) and prime aurora season (December-February) commanding higher prices than the shoulder seasons. The number of private guided activities versus independent exploration, the complexity of the logistics, and the overall duration of the trip are also key components. We work transparently with you during the design process to balance your desired experiences with your budget, providing options and clear cost implications for each choice you make.

Important Travel Information
A little preparation goes a long way. Here are key legal and administrative points to consider before your journey. We are here to help guide you through these requirements.
Visa Requirements: Denmark, Norway, and Sweden are all members of the Schengen Area. This means that citizens of many countries, including the USA, Canada, Australia, and the UK, do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period. However, it is the traveler's sole responsibility to verify their specific visa requirements based on their nationality. Starting in mid-2025, citizens from visa-exempt countries will be required to obtain an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) waiver prior to travel. We will provide information and reminders about this, but the application must be completed by the traveler. Please consult the nearest embassy or consulate of your destination country for the most current information.
Travel Insurance: As a condition of booking, Nordic Horizons requires all clients to have comprehensive travel insurance. This is non-negotiable and is for your own protection. Your policy must cover, at a minimum: trip cancellation and interruption, medical emergencies and evacuation, and lost or delayed baggage. Proof of insurance must be provided to us before your final travel documents are issued. This policy ensures that you are protected from unforeseen circumstances that could significantly impact your travel plans and finances. We can suggest reputable providers if needed.

Your Questions Answered
Here are answers to common questions about our tours and the booking process. If your question isn't here, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Can I customize the tours listed on this page?
Absolutely! The tours listed here are meant to be inspirational starting points, not rigid packages. Every single aspect can be customized. You can change the duration, upgrade or change accommodations, swap activities, add new destinations, or adjust the pace. If you love the Fjord Odyssey but want to add a few days of urban exploration in Oslo, we can do that. If a tour is listed as 10 days but you only have 8, we can create a more condensed version. Your final itinerary will be uniquely yours.
What is the payment schedule?
Our payment schedule is designed to be straightforward. To confirm your booking and allow us to begin securing arrangements, we require a deposit of 30% of the total trip cost. The final balance is then due 90 days prior to your departure date. For bookings made within 90 days of departure, the full payment is required at the time of confirmation. We accept payment via major credit cards and bank transfers. All payment details will be clearly outlined in your booking confirmation.
What is your cancellation policy?
Our cancellation policy is structured to be as fair as possible while accounting for the commitments we make to our local partners. Cancellations made more than 90 days before departure are eligible for a refund of the deposit, minus a small administrative fee to cover planning costs. Cancellations made between 90 and 61 days prior result in the loss of the deposit. Cancellations within 60 days of departure are typically non-refundable. This is why comprehensive travel insurance with cancellation coverage is mandatory for all our clients, as it protects your investment in case of unforeseen events.
Do your tours include international flights?
Our tour prices do not include international airfare to and from your home country. This gives you the flexibility to use your preferred airline, book with points, or choose flight times and routes that best suit your schedule. We are happy to provide advice on the best airports to fly into for your specific itinerary. Once you arrive in Scandinavia, all domestic flights, trains, ferries, and private transfers as specified in your itinerary are included in your tour cost.
Are these tours suitable for families with children?
Yes, we delight in creating incredible family adventures! We can adapt any itinerary to be engaging and safe for travelers of all ages. This can include selecting family-friendly hotels with connecting rooms or suites, planning shorter travel days, and incorporating activities that appeal to children and teenagers, such as visiting Viking museums, exploring castles, or enjoying fun outdoor activities like ziplining or gentle kayaking. We ensure that the pace and content are appropriate for your family's specific needs.
Do you accommodate solo travelers?
We warmly welcome solo travelers. Since all our trips are private and customized, we can craft an itinerary perfectly suited for a single adventurer. The pricing for a solo traveler will be different from the "per person" price based on double occupancy, as costs for accommodation and private guiding are not shared. We will provide a clear and transparent quote based on your solo journey, ensuring a safe, enriching, and seamlessly organized experience.
How are meals handled on the tours?
Typically, daily breakfast at your accommodation is included. We also include specific, unique dining experiences that are central to the itinerary, such as a welcome dinner, a farm-to-table lunch, or a special culinary class. For most lunches and dinners, we intentionally leave you free to explore. This allows you the flexibility to dine at your own pace, try a place that catches your eye, or follow the personal, curated recommendations from your guide or our detailed travel documents. This approach balances structure with the joy of spontaneous discovery.
What happens if my plans change due to unforeseen circumstances?
We understand that life can be unpredictable. Our 24/7 support is there to help you navigate any changes. If you need to alter your trip, we will work with our partners to be as flexible as possible, although changes may incur costs. This is where your mandatory travel insurance is vital. It provides the financial safety net for major changes or cancellations due to covered reasons. Our role is to provide you with all necessary documentation for your insurance claim and assist in rearranging your travel plans to the best of our ability.
